Technology
Technology Being a relatively new school, we are fortunate enough to have the most current technological equipment available for our students to use to assist them with their learning. We have a bank of laptops that are completely portable, allowing all students regular access to these within their own classroom environment. The laptops are stored within a specially designed trolley that enables them to be taken to any area of the school. Once the laptops are placed in the trolley, they are plugged in and charged for the next class to use.
The laptops all contain a wireless network card, which connects each laptop to the Internet and school server. By using this card in the laptops, the students are able to take the laptops anywhere within the school and still be able to access the Internet, print work and email their friends. The wireless network card gives the students the freedom to use the technology without the inconvenience of cords and plugs, freeing them up to use the technology for research and presenting work in all areas of the school buildings and grounds.
Together with the laptops we have a range of other pieces of equipment, which are used by staff and students to access information and increase academic and social development. We have many digital cameras and a digital video camera, which allow us to take photos and footage of the students at work. These are easy to use and allow staff and students to see and use their photos and footage immediately.
We also have data projectors, which enables us to project images, work, Power Point presentations, etc onto a larger scale so audiences (including the parents and students) can view the work that has been created. The data projector is especially useful when instructing students on specific programs so they can view exactly what they need to do to complete the instructions using their laptops. The data projectors are also used in conjunction with the interactive whiteboards/Smartboard.
The Smartboard is an interactive whiteboard that allows your fingers to be the mouse. Programs and documents are projected onto the Smartboard from a computer or laptop. The Smartboard is then programmed to recognize touches to the screen as clicks of the mouse. This piece of equipment is fantastic for whole class activities and allows the students to interact completely with technology. Together with the data projector, we are able to connect our laptops to our standard televisions within the school allowing students to view the information on the laptops in a much larger form.
Another interesting piece of equipment is the digital microscope. This amazing item allows students to see close-up the world around them.
