Physical Education Program

Physical Education is of utmost important to the students for their development of their fine and gross motor skills. Participation in sporting activities also assists in improving a wide range of other aspects including hand-eye coordination, social development, good sportsmanship and teamwork. Due to these factors, the staff at Rockingham Lakes Primary School have provided many sporting activities for the students to participate in to allow for their physical and social growth and development.

'T Ball' practiceSince our school opened in April 2002 we have partaken in an extensive range of sporting clinics to increase our skills and understanding of a wide selection of sports. These clinics have focused upon the skills and rules of netball, flag belt rugby, cricket, basketball, soccer and tee ball. The students have all developed a good understanding of these sports and really enjoyed the clinics with the specialists.

We have also participated in several sports carnivals that have allowed us to put our skills and understandings into play in real games. We have been involved in the tee ball, cricket, soccer, netball, cross country and basketball carnivals for the local primary schools. At each of these we have competed to the best of our abilities and even though we have not finished high on the ladder, we have always had fun and displayed good sportsmanship to all competitors. We have had many positive reports from parents and teachers about our good behaviour and positive attitude at all sporting events.

On a Tuesday and Wednesday we have a Physical Education specialist who takes our students for PE sessions. During these classes we have an opportunity to practise our skill development and learn the rules that enable us to play the game. We are very fortunate to have a well-equipped sports shed that caters for a range of sports we are able to play and practise. Lorelle Watson has worked extremely hard to purchase a wide range of sporting equipment for us to use during sporting sessions and in the playground at recess and lunch. Mrs. Watson has also organized the collection of aluminum cans by the students at our school in order to raise extra money to purchase other items for our sports shed.

Practicing our Cricket skillsWe have participated in a range of whole school sporting activities allowing the students to develop skills, knowledge and new friends. We have had the Friendship Games, the Be Proud Games and the Golden Circle Fun Run. These were all organized by Mrs. Lorelle Watson, our year 5/6 teacher and a fantastic time was had by both staff and students alike.
